mono junks dum records has been dictating trends in the world of minimalistic techno since the 1990s, and its 34th release is as special as any. this one comes from label boss kimmo rapatti aka mono junk vs mesak, who is better known as fellow finn, tatu metsätähti, aka one half of mr velcto fastener and someone who has released on dexter & steffis klakson. together the pair serve up three mixes of their jam and an additional track. title track deep in my mind is a paranoid techno cut with freaky vocal riffs repeating the title as gurgling synth lines and sleek drums rumble below. twitchy synths and high pressure perc add to the hypnotic effect, and overall its easy to see this one making for some perfectly weird dance floor moments. the mix by mono junk is completely the opposite: in his hands it is a beat-less, serene and beautifully styled electro cut that takes you deep into brain soothing space. the electro mind version is then a full on electro jam, with plenty of aqueous synths and fluid lines all squiggling along in classic detroit style. final track sysdrum is back to the raw, with angsty drum lines, crisp and slapping snares and oodles of reverb all making for a brain frying trip.

not an animal return with their 2nd installment, this time from ess o ess (aka chris stoker and jamie blanco). their original offering, cantillate, isn t an easy beast to identify, being equal parts swamp-rock and techno. imagine you ve stumbled across an ephedrine and moonshine fueled rave in a deep louisiana bayoux in the year 3000, and you re close. add an out-there vocal refrain, and you ll start to appreciate why this is a particularly distinct record. relocate said rave to a some kind of space ship hitting hyperspace, with photon torpedoes fully armed, and you ll suddenly find yourself with the first remix, as created by ene records owner chida.

he is young, he is from bulgaria and he has a big passion for music. having previously released music only on his own label, this is his first venture into the outside world. genial gladly welcomes on board stefan dichev.
his desert brothers ep, consists of 3 tracks, hide, withdrawal and, of course, desert brothers. it’s not easy to classify the ep in a specific music genre. all 3 tracks have a very distinctive drums programming and groovy bass. they could be easily played in a big club during the peak time of a set or at a dark basement during the after hours. they have this strange deepness that calms you down but at the same time the first kick after the break easily gets your fist up.
here at the genial headquarters, we always try to find the balance between things, people, relationships, music and maybe stefan dichev has just done that with his desert brothers ep… he found the balance!

it grabs you and turns you round. resistance is futile. fall into it gleefully because the darkness has been lit, there is a chill in the air and you feel as taut as a bow. laurent pastor and marc lapeyre (fkclub) are responsible for decadanse where ice doesnt hurt anymore according to the whisper in the title track. the label head was convinced by his partner to start production in a basement studio to create a sound using guitars and synthesisers. the coming together of these 2 strong (id)entities has culminated in an ep which is cinematic (train in vein, easy drive), distinguished post-punk (plan b) and electronic (decadanse). and when susuma makai ventures into the meandering ruin, he delivers a mind-blowing version.

tvir is a vinyl only label based in ukraine. translated from ukrainian tvir means composition. our second release comes from two moscow based musicians. victor lihonosov (rabotnic) is the owner of antrakt label, resident of rodnya club and kirill silantyev (sil) is more known for his work in the duo easy changes. this first collaboration of these talented artists brings us the real minimal techno music vibe. the two originals tracks showcase a clear yet peculiar sound. first remix on a side from odd boys danny and damian has a deep and strong melody coupled with some smooth bass lines. radiq aka yoshihiro hanno showcases his talent in the second remix on b side featuring some traditional japan minimal sounding. those who appreciate true quality techno won t be disappointed. the artwork for the ep is inspired by ukrainian folklore influences.

its not that easy to define the sound of this berliner based italian artist, but he clearly merges different influences together. the opening cuts are quite fascinating for the way they’ve been meticulously built up. it takes off like a soundscape experiment revealing the ambient involvement of the artist, but moves towards heavier structures characterized by elements of dub, mystical chants and solid industrial components. the debut of this album is absolutely great. inner8 brings icy elements together with a kind of dubby rhythm, which on the next song becomes pretty industrial like. it all sounds like a delicious osmosis of sounds and different influences, antezza revealing himself as an inspired sound alchemist.

metereze keeps a steady path of releases and this time around it is young star vincent iulian who picks up the ball and delivers four astounding tracks on his four quarters ep. also a native of bacau like dubtil and raresh among others vincent has already released on labels like naural or moment.
started is probably the grooviest of them all and for sure youve heard it before if you’ve been attending the right parties. breaking the boundries between techno and house this is a true masterpiece. on the same side he also shows a more relaxed atmosphere filled with jazzy percussions and easy synths. stors kinda makes you stop and dream for a while.
first on side b we have another dancefloor monster. no more is is driven by a hypnotic synth and infused with enough drums to keep you on the move for the whole 7 minutes. le van a cantar keeps the catchy driving mood but this time iulian explores a more broken path. bubbly voices, snares and a haunted synth emerging now and then make this corner as interesting as the rest.
four quarters is a must have for any serious collector. not to mention if you are a dj.

hello sailor is a party and record label based in brooklyn, ny founded by brazilian-born, new york based renata do valle. since 2012, the label has been staging events with an array of local and international artists. following the killer first release ( muko wapi ), featuring the joakim rework was never going to be easy, but luckily sao paolo dj duo selvagem step up ! acclaimed releases on the beats in space x label and universal cave have established them as a force to be reckoned with in the esoteric edits game. le freak is a cumbia style rendition of the chic classic, driven by insane synths and sampled drum loops, punctuated with low-pitched vocals in portuguese. tamanqueiro could be one of the greatest hits by jorge ben, if it wasn t written by elizio de buzios. that s his only release ever and now is a holy grail of brazilian funk, fetching small fortunes when found. here it appears in an extended and dj-friendly version.

it is no easy task to blend the cerebral with the soulful - the two tend to stand at opposing corners in the deep house world and producers are often forced to choose one or the other - to mix both is a lofty aim. maddermodes may not have set out with this merger in mind when launching the project - mental space - but the end result is striking in its effortless fusion. released under the artists own label, shift coordinate points, the ep consists of two tracks: mental space and human science. the titles, of course, lead one to assume there will be a strong degree of technicality and complexity behind the songs and indeed there is, what is surprising is the level of personality and moodiness that also exists.

little is known about the london-based producer and dj who goes by the name of u, but that hasnt quelled praise from bedroom heads, industry tastemakers and big name press alike. audio arbiter george fitzgerald originally met u on a holiday in greece and immediately commissioned a handful of 12inches, each brimming with trademark mechanical bliss, like pleasure tinged with menace. u has since gone on to release for erol alkans phantasy sounds (both as a solo artist and in collaboration with babe, terror as btu), being given the nod by the guardian, mixmag and the line of best fit.

following up his debut on the label, jc laurent successfully returns with this memorbable four tracker, “southside” ep. using his influences from deep within berlin and detroit, he resumes where he left off, continually blurring the lines between techno and house with an uncanny ability to make it look easy.

denis kaznacheev is better known as one half of the russian duo easy changes. hes also the co-founder of nervmusic. he advocates a very organic and powerful minimal techno and makes use of his modular system on his own and unique way. denis cooks a mix of emotions to your ears and to the floor. waiting for his visa application between siberia and moscow hes been doing some music for us and we love it. he offered to bring us on its journey with brilliant textures and a superb sounding ep.
